The International College of Hotel Management (ICHM) will be visiting Uplands on Monday 10th October. Be in B106 at 12.30pm for the presentation.

ICHM is highly regarded hotel management and hospitality college located in Adelaide, South Australia (Georgetown’s sister city).

Students at ICHM will be able to complete the first Swiss Hotel Association Bachelor Degree offered anywhere; also built into the program will also be a Bachelor of Business. In essence it will be “one program, two degrees”. Students can finish a Bachelor of Business in 2.5 years and then study for an extra 6-12 months to received the Swiss Hotel Association Bachelor of International Hotel Management.

Some scholarships are available starting with a minimum score of 24 IB points See the ICHM website for more details.

Please remember that local newspapers such as The Star and NST are a good reference regarding scholarships and university fairs. There are a number of very good scholarships offered within Malaysia and Singapore for Malaysian students.

One I found last week in The Star was the Jardine Scholarship Awards. There are also books and other information regarding financial aid options in the Universities Office.

Universities in Hong Kong offer full scholarships to top students and there are also some good packages available at Japanese universities (for courses in English).

For any Year 12 or 13 students contemplating their options

New York University has recently opened a new campus in Abu Dhabi to which they offer generous scholarships for top students at preferred schools (Uplands is one their preferred schools). If you are interested in this college Uplands can nominate two of our top students who will be eligible for paid trip (hotel, flights and some expenses) to visit the campus in Abu Dhabi. Nomination dates are as below. There is also material in the Universities Office that can be viewed, as well as a presentation.

NYUAD will be visiting Penang during October on 27th which unfortunately falls within our term break. However the rep is willing to meet with Uplands students at some mutually agreed point or may possibly return in November. They return to Penang to visit Uplands on November 17th (B106 @ 12.30pm).

Uplands can now begin nominating students for the International Leader of Tomorrow Award (ILOT) that recognises international students who demonstrate superior academic achievement, leadership skills, involvement in student affairs and community service, or who have recognised achievement in fields of endeavour such as the performing arts, sports, debating or creative writing, or external academic competitions and examinations.

Swinzle, our previous Head Girl, was a worthy recipient of this award last year and Uplands is now listed on the award details here. Uplands can nominate up to two students for the Vancouver campus and one student for the Okanagan campus. If, after reading the information, you would like to be considered for the nomination please see me asap.
